Objectives

In 2019, Victorian regional health services Nathalia, Cobram and Numurkah were amalgamated and became ‘NCN Health’. Our team was charged with creating a single digital presence for these three separate health websites to give the community a cohesive and streamlined online experience.

Research

The biggest hurdle in creating the new site structure was consolidating over 100 services across the locations. Many of these services were similar, but had different names across locations. To find the best performing site structure, multiple rounds of both open and closed card sorting exercises were performed with real users to uncover how to best rename and organise the services.

Key Finding

From an initial 100 services, we were able to consolidate to around 60 that would sit within 15 categories. No more double ups or ambiguous service names!

Wire-framing, Prototyping & Testing

I created low-fi clickable wireframes in Figma to give us the opportunity to test the new navigation concepts with users and make some minor adjustments.

UI Design

The priorities for UI design was to create accessible, aesthetically pleasing design that reflected the diversity of the community and the new modern direction of the organisation.

All photography included in the new site was taken on location to reflect the real staff and people who use NCN services.

Key takeaways

Being confident in our proposed navigation and information architecture structure was critical to this project’s success. The card-sorting process for NCN was essential in understanding both current and future behaviour and was key in convincing stakeholders which direction to follow.
